35 weeks/ 5 days Pregnant!

October 24, 2010

The excitement of being pregnant! I am deciding to blog about the last couple of weeks of my pregnancy. As the days go by I feel as if there is more and more that I could talk about but no one to talk to about it so blogging will be my answer. :)

Reflection Essay

December 6, 2009

This semester I have worked hard on improving my writing skills and adding length and detail to my papers. In each of my essays and/or blogs I have been looking for more sources to interpret different information. I reread my papers and make sure to do spell and grammar check. When I am writing on a certain topic, I make sure to go back and find sources that go in depth on the topic.

Sterotypes and stereotyping has caught my attention. I find myself being more aware of what I am assuming about a certain race then I have been in the past. I incorporate these feelings and opinions toward stereotypes the most when I was writing about the Mafia.

My opinion on writing has changed dramatically since being in this course. In my past english classes I have been less excited about writing and I use to procrastinate horribly and even miss due dates. I take writing seriously now and all topics that I have written about have caught my interest.

The writing skills I have learned as well as the rhetorical concepts will have relevance to future course as well as a future career. There will be times in the work place when I might have to write reports and being able to understand rhetorical concepts will help me connect to my audience and get a straight point across.

Blog Post #10

December 3, 2009

In highschool I did not consider myself a strong writer. I completed my papers hoow I felt like completing them because I wasn’t into writing papers. Writing papers now, at St. Xavier, I feel more involved with my papers and more interested. Every writing assignment we get brings more and more interest to writing.

I enjoyed having two classes with the same people. It has really got me closer to a few people in the class. In transitions I have learned  to be open with new situationas as well as new people. English has taught me about different subcultures and has made me realize how easy it is to stereotype based off of what you see instead of what you know, and it aso has taught me to be more opinionated and to participate more. English 101 has pulled me out of my shell a little when it comes to participating in class.

I am almost positive that I would like to pick the issue of abortion to write my final paper on. The controversy I would like to discuss is how abortions could be considered murder, why abortions should or should not be legalized, and health issues occuring after abortions. Personally for this project I would like to get the opinions of people who have received abortions and their take on the controversies I will be discussing.

Blog Assignment #8

I believe Zhu uses the definitional, and evaluation and ethical claim for his essay. I believe his thesis is stated when he says, “I hope that my research will serve to dismiss these popular misconceptions about the hacker subculture, and provide background for a greater understanding of the role hackers play in cyberspace and society at large.” (Zhu 137) I believe this is the thesis because he goes on to talking about the background of hackers and when they first began to be known. It is an evaluation and ethical claim because the essay discusses their roles and goes on to given names to each group within the subculture.
